Biography

I hold a PhD in Marine Sciences from the Universidad de Cádiz (2015, Summa Cum Laude — Extraordinary PhD Award and International PhD Mention) and currently develop my research career as a Postdoctoral Researcher under the MOMENTUM excellence programme at the Instituto de Ciencias Marinas de Andalucía (ICMAN-CSIC), in the Department of Ecology and Coastal Management — Ecosystem Oceanography Group.

My research focuses on ocean biogeochemistry applied to the evaluation of natural and anthropogenic impacts on coastal, shelf and deep-sea ecosystems. I study the carbon system, ocean acidification and deoxygenation, together with the variability and air–sea exchange of greenhouse gases (CO₂, CH₄, N₂O), using long-term observational series and innovative AI-based methods articulated in my OCEAN–IA research line.

Since 2008 I have coordinated the Gibraltar Fixed Time Series (GIFT) and, since 2018, I co-lead the Balearic Ocean Acidification Time Series (BOATS). I have participated in 50 oceanographic cruises (≈287 days at sea) across the Southern Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Strait of Gibraltar, Gulf of Cádiz, and Baltic and Mediterranean Seas, and in over 180 field campaigns in coastal, estuarine and wetland environments.
